The magnificent run the Phillies had from 2007 through 2011 was centered around their big three:  Jimmy Rollins, the leadoff hitter and speedster, Ryan Howard, the slugger, and Chase Utley, the hustler and quiet leader.  Finally, all three of their careers has reached the end.  Howard announced his retirement this September through the Players Tribune.   Utley announced in July ahead of a series in Philadelphia that he would retire at season's end.  Rollins has not yet to announce a retirement, but I guess this makes it official.

That is will not be it for the celebrations, either.

This will be the first time that all three will be available for Alumni Weekend, traditionally held in early August.  This year will mark 10 years since the 2009 National League Championship team.  Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer notes that the Phillies will honor that squad during Alumni Weekend.

Depending how the Phillies do this offseason to acquire the star power they hope, this could be a really fun 2019 season for Phillies fans.
