Aaron Nola ‘Definitely a Possibility’ for Opening Day

With the start to this shortened 60-game MLB season opening a week from tomorrow, the Phillies have yet to name their Opening Day starter, but Aaron Nola is "definitely a possibility" according to manager Joe Girardi.

The 27-year old was late arriving to summer camp after being exposed to someone with COVID-19, but seems to be on pace to start when they host the Marlins at Citizens Bank Park on July 24.

“If he isn’t Opening Day, he would definitely be the first time through the rotation,” Girardi told Phillies.com. “As long as everything goes physically OK, we kind of feel that he’s going to be all right.

The right-hander has been the Phillies' starter on Opening Day in each of the past two seasons.

The seventh overall pick in the 2014 draft had a solid 2019 season, going 12-7 in 34 starts with a 3.87 ERA in 202 1/3 innings.
